Drivy is the brainchild of Paulin Dementhon who came up with the idea in 2010 in his hometown of Marseille, France. He noticed that some of his neighbors were taking turns sharing one car and splitting the associated costs like gas and insurance. Paulin then realized just how many cars sit around parked all day and don’t get put to use. Why have a car and pay all of the expenses and not drive it? Thus began Drivy, and soon Paulin moved his headquarters to Paris, where things really began to take off.

How does it work?
The first step to having access to cars all over Barcelona is to register and become a member of Drivy. Once you are a member, you can access Drivy on your computer or by using their app to search the available cars in your area. All you have to do is put in some basic information like where you are and the date and time that you need a car and you can see everything that is listed that meets your requirements. Next, you have to reserve the car that you want and pay the rental fee. Afterward, you will meet the car‘s owner to pick up the keys and go over the agreement together, as well as check the condition of the car before the rental period starts.
This process can also be done using your smartphone, which means there will be no need to print any documents, making everything that much easier! Drivy is the only p2p rent a car company that offers this type of solution, called Drivy Open. They install a box in the car of the owner (the installation is free), which enables the renters to open the car with their smartphones, which means that the owner can leave the keys inside and doesn’t need to be present when the renter picks up the car. When the renter has finished using the vehicle, he can also use his smartphone to perform the steps of the return process.
The Drivy Open service is available only in Barcelona, Madrid, and Málaga, though the Drivy car renting service is available in Spain, and other European countries like France, Germany, Austria, and Belgium
