The bio side of Poblenou

Written by Miguel

Barcelona has more bars, cafes and restaurants per capita than any other city in the world – and each one of its neighbourhoods has its own specialty. The famous Gothic quarter is the temple of tapas bars. In Barceloneta, traditional bodegas (wine bars) are the preferred destination. In El Raval, Moroccan and Chinese restaurants abound.

“But what if I’m looking for healthy and organic food?”, you ask. Well, in that case, you should head down to Poblenou. Further away from the city centre and thus much less crowded than the other barrios we mentioned, this modern neighbourhood in the Sant Martí district is the best place in town for tasting some quality bio cuisine in a relaxed environment.

Here are some of the best organic food restaurants in Poblenou:

Sopa

Sopa is a self-service macrobiotic restaurant. You take your tray, choose your drink (iced tea, juice or water) and grab one of the daily specials on display. Its wide main room features huge windows, which allows the sun to come in freely and makes for a bright and natural environment. For a meal that includes either salad or soup and a hot main course, you’ll be charged 9.90€ – a reasonable price that is well justified by delicious dishes made with fresh organic ingredients and inventive recipes that change daily. To top off your bio meal with a sweet treat, we recommend you try one of their awesome gluten-free pastries.

Address: Carrer de Roc Boronat, 114.

Súper

Why Súper? Because this bio restaurant‘s concept is based around offering dishes with as many superfoods as possible. Affordable and healthy, their meals are served in smaller portions than you’ll find in most places – yet still big enough to leave you perfectly satisfied. Make sure to try their (also super) coffee, which is really good – there’s a reason why they are a member of the Specialty Coffee Association of Europe, after all! With a small and cozy interior, it’s a very pleasant place to be – but if you’d rather take your food to eat at home or at the office, they also offer a very quick takeaway service, so you won’t have to way too long for your meal. A great option for a vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free lunch on a tight budget.

Address: Carrer de Roc Boronat, 102.

Nabibi Vital Kitchen

Nabibi was created with the objective of offering both small and large healthy menus composed only of natural, seasonal and organic local ingredients. Open from breakfast to lunch and with a daily menu that changes regularly, their dishes are all cooked-to-order, so you don’t have to worry about reheated or microwaved food there. In addition to many vegan and vegetarian choices, there’s also always a meat dish on the menu, such as lasagna or a hamburger. If you’re looking to become a healthy food chef yourself, this is the right place, since they offer cooking classes.

Address: Carrer de Marià Aguiló, 61.
