The 4 best ice cream shops in Barcelona

Written by Adriana

If you are anything like us, you enjoy having a good scoop of ice cream, no matter the time of the year. This delicious sweet treat is not only good for the hot days, to help cool off, but it is also good on the cold days, as long as you are warm and cozy when you eat it.

There are a number of great ice cream shops in Barcelona where you can go but in this article, we have listed our personal favorites.

1. Vioko

Vioko is one of the most popular ice cream parlors in Barceloneta. It is located in one of the busiest areas of the neighborhood, Passeig de Joan de Borbó, where thousands of people walk up and down every day. The fact that this ice cream shop is located on the way to the beach is one of the reasons why it is common to find a line of people waiting to order in the hotter months. Vioko sells not only ice cream but also bonbons, cakes, and delicious cups of hot chocolate for the colder seasons. Choose from a variety of flavors of artisanally made ice cream, including rose and raspberry, jasmine, and dark chocolate with almonds.

Address: Passeig de Joan de Borbó, 55

Working hours: From Sunday to Thursday from 10 am to 10 pm, and Fridays and Saturdays from 10 am to 11:30 pm.

2. El Tío Che

El Tío Che is a historic horchatería and ice cream shop with over a century of experience. This is a very popular venue for fresh desserts or beverages (the horchata is always served nice and cold). Though they don’t offer a large selection of flavors, the quality of the ice cream is superb. If you have never been to El Tío Che before and are afraid you may miss it because you don’t know the neighborhood that well, just keep your eyes peeled for a long line leading to a window. That is where you will find the horchata being poured and the ice cream being scooped and placed into crispy cones. There is also another easy way to spot the venue: by finding a friendly papier-mache figure of a man holding an ice cream cone, which usually stands right outside.

Address: Rambla del Poblenou, 44-46

Working hours: 10 am to 12 am during the week, and 10 am to 1 am during the weekend.

3. Gelaaati Di Marco

In this Italian shop they don’t use artificial colorants or hydronated vegetable fats to make their ice cream, using only natural ingredients like fresh milk, cream, egg yolks, cocoa, nuts, pistachios, and fresh fruit to create very colorful and tasty varieties of this treat. For those who cannot have sugar or are avoiding it, Gelaaaati Di Marco is a good choice, since they offer options with a very low level of it. Pay a visit to this venue and admire the beautiful works of art that are each of their ice creams.

Address: Carrer de la Llibreteria, 7

Working hours: Every day of the week from 11 am to 12 am.

4. DelaCrem

DelaCrem is another great location to have Italian ice cream, which is artisanally made. Other than being cool and tasty, their ice cream is always fresh, as they prepare it every single day. Massimo Pignata leads the team at DelaCream, creating a high-quality product that is made with top notch ingredients. The venue is located in a pedestrian street, which means that you can sit outside or just have a slow, leisurely stroll while you enjoy your ice cream. They also serve other sweet delights such as cakes, brownies, and pie.

Address: Calle Enric Granados, 15

Working hours: From Sunday to Tuesday from 9:30 am to 9:30 pm and from Wednesday to Saturday from 9:30 am to 12:30 am.

These are just a few of the greatest ice cream shops in all of Barcelona but if you don’t have a chance to visit any of them, be sure to look around in the area you are at – there is always an ice cream parlor around the corner! If you plan on visiting one of the venues from our list, we advise that you double check their schedule online as the working hours for certain venues vary according to the season.

Make your day sweeter by enjoying a delicious scoop of ice cream in the beautiful city of Barcelona.
