The best places in El Born for dessert

Written by Joe Thurston

El Born is part of the old town and one of the best places to stay in the city. Its traditional cobbled and narrow streets are full of character, just like in Barri Gotic, but you will find fewer tourists there. Whether you are staying in El Born or have merely visited for a meal, it is definitely worth venturing out to one of the area’s many different gelaterias and dessert parlors for a delicious treat.

Gelateria Italiana is a chain you can find throughout Barcelona and El Born is no exception. Right on Placeta de Montcada, this is an ice cream store with many different flavors to choose from. Being a chain, it is not the cheapest, yet the quality of the ice cream is fantastic! They also offer milkshakes, waffles and freshly squeezed orange juice. This is definitely the place to go if you are looking for a blowout dessert with all different types of options.

Address: Placeta de Montcada, 12

Creps al Born

Located on the main street of Passeig del Born, Creps al Born is a particular favorite of the locals. In this café you can get all different types of crepes, both sweet and savory, and it also doubles up as a cocktail bar. It is a great place to go at the end of a date or late at night. A chocolate crepe and homemade cocktail are the perfect way to spend a late evening in this city that goes to bed at around 2am.

Hofmann Pastisseria is a high-end dessert place for special occasions. If you want expertly made cakes, this is the place to go. It is expensive, but it is worth the cost. If you are after a cake for a birthday, wedding or Christmas, they have plenty of designer options. They also have a baking school, should you wish to perfect your culinary talents.

Address: Carrer dels Flassaders, 44

Gocce di latte

Gocce di latte is on the opposite end of the spectrum of Hoffman Pastisseria. This small, privately run little Italian gelateria, sells the most perfect ice creams at good value. This is a great place to grab a cone and continue walking around the lovely area of El Born.

Address: Pla de Palau, 4
