ZUMBA and YOGA Retreat in Barcelona

Written by Dorothy

For those who want to practice yoga but don’t want to overdo the relaxation, or who simply want to up the fun element, why not throw some Zumba classes into the mix! For one week in July, Barcelona’s Yoga Ishta Style are offering the opportunity to participate in a unique Zumba and yoga retreat, taking place right in the heart of Barcelona.

The retreat welcomes everyone from experienced to newbie yogis and Zumba dancers. No need to worry if you’ve never even set foot in a Zumba or yoga class before!

You’ll take part in daily Zumba classes where you can expect a fun, fast paced dance workout set to infectious latino rhythms, including Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia and Reggaeton. This is a great way to exercise without feeling like you’re exercising! No partner or complicated moves to learn. The passionate dance teachers aim to elevate your sense of happiness and joy, liberating you to express yourself freely, moving your body in rhythm to the beat of the music. But don’t let any lack of natural rhythm put you off as the focus is very much on having fun, with the lead instructor describing it as “like being at a party”.

Yoga classes are the perfect complementary follow up to all that cardio action, allowing you to stretch out, unwind and relax. A range of daily  yoga classes are on offer, from gentler and slower classes to more energetic hatha styles. You will be able to benefit from individualised attention from teachers, who will assist participants with alignment and breath during the classes. Some classes will be held in a studio with views to the sea, while others will take place out in the fresh open air of the Ciutadella park.

When not getting your Zumba groove on or at Yoga classes, you can get involved in variety of other organised activities, including a Jazz Catamaran cruise, a Paddle Board class, a Barcelona city tour and a Flamenco lesson. There will also be a Paella cooking challenge, with the chef choosing the best Paella, after which it will all be washed down with sangria, music and good company.

To top it all off, there will also be a surprise event toward the end of the event, described as a journey through rhythm which participants get involved in with a renowned facilitator. Sounds interesting!

You can choose from a 7 or 4 night stay, both groups commencing on the Sunday. A welcome dinner is included in the price.Accommodation, however, is not arranged and you’ll need to organise this yourself. For easing of getting to and from the classes and activities, it’s a good idea to stay close to Barceloneta beach. This also means you can soak up the July sun on the beach and take a refreshing dip in the sea in your free time.

More details about prices and schedule can be found on the Yoga Ishta Style website, as well as information about other retreats.

Enjoy with friends, make new friends, have fun, explore Barcelona, and come away feeling rejuvinated and exhilarated!
