Getting around

Trixi – A new way to see Barcelona

Written by Thompson Crowley

With so many sights to see in Barcelona, it is important that you find yourself the right kind of transport. There are plenty of ways to get around, but which is the best for you? If you just want to get somewhere quick then either the metro or a taxi would be most suitable. But what if you want something a little slower? What if you want to enjoy your journey and take in the surroundings as you travel? Pedicabs are a great way to get about in the city. You can explore many of the different streets whilst still being out in the fresh air. Fees are reasonably priced, and of course, they are completely environmentally friendly.

What is Trixi?

Trixi is a new kind of pedicab. It is aerodynamic in its design, and also has the added bonus of an assisted pedal system. As the electric motor only helps to power the bike in difficult situations (such as traveling uphill), it is not classed as a motor vehicle itself. It is a tricycle powered ultimately by muscles. It also has lots of gears to lessen the strain on the driver, with hydraulic brakes, high-powered lights and indicators for extra safety. They are very adaptable with their modular design, and also very lightweight, using the most up to date technology and materials.

The Trixis have space for two passengers in the back, plus a small amount of luggage.

Where can I hire one?

There are around 20 drivers cycling in Barcelona throughout the year, from April to November. You can find them pedaling throughout the city centre from 11am to 8pm. The main office is located on Pl. Traginers, just off via Laietana in the Gothic quarter. They also have a rank in the main square outside the cathedral. They also offer a pick up service from hotels, if you book in advance. Email: info@trixi.com for more information.

  • Stop massificating our city. It’s intolerable, stupid inventions like this Trixi’s. Shame on you! Not only tourists are ocuppying the natural space of locals, but also you need to convert it in a real circus or safary where you feel free to use the pedestrians zones and bycicle path for making ridiculous tours. Heeo! There’s real people living in here! Is not an scenery or a thematic park show! Barcelona is not this postcards of our materialistic porn-rich-party-sunny-mediterranean imagination. Let us live with dignity, stop destroying, selling and advertising a city-product!

  • I’m not agreeing with Andrei bc it’s not true that thouse “Trixi” are destroying Barcelona!Better ecological vehicles going through the town as cars.”Trixi”gives a lot of young people a job!!!!What’s going on right now in BCN?No tourists no money and huge social problems. Is that what you want Andreu???
