Barcelona’s reputation as a global media hub is only growing stronger, with a vast selection of professional media production companies now operating in the Catalan capital. Every year, hundreds of commercials, television series and films are shot in and around Barcelona. Perhaps due to the agreeable climate and wealth of varied, ideal locations, many international production companies make Barcelona the go-to stop for their productions.

However, many innovative local companies are also taking advantage of the favorable conditions, operating at full strength and making their mark on international media.

Here are some Barcelona-based production companies that are doing a great work.

The company has worked with an impressive list of directors, from the auteur (Alejandro González Iñárritu, Wim Wenders), to the popular (James Bond director Martin Campbell) , and from the celebrity (Penélope Cruz) to the offbeat (Resident Evil director Paul W.S Anderson). They have produced commercials, as well as feature documentaries and narrative film. One co-production combined both mediums and resulted in the excellent docu-drama The Impostor, which won international critical acclaim and a BAFTA film award in 2012.
