Literature has always been important in Barcelona, from Medieval times until the modern day. Many books have been written in Barcelona and many also have stories set here. The city has given birth to many gifted writers, granting them the freedom and inspiration needed to develop their craft. So, it should come as no surprise that there are many bookstores within the city.

Silmar

Silmar is located on Carrer de Torà, close to Rambla de Prim. It is a small book and stationery store, packed full with different items. They have a good range of reference books, as well as a small variety of other titles. The amount of stationary products they sell is staggering – you’ll wonder how they managed to fit it all in there! They are open every day apart from Sunday, from 9:30am until 2pm; and from 5pm until 8pm.

Nollegiu

Nollegiu is located on Carrer Pons, in the Poblenou neighborhood. It is a large store with a wide variety of books, on many different subjects. The owner of the place prides himself on the quality of the selection, so you won’t find endless shelves of popular trashy fiction here, but instead, tasteful and well-written books. They have a great selection of poetry books, in both Castilian and Catalan. The store has really comfy seats, encouraging customers to stay a while whilst they sample the products. Nollegiu is open every day of the week, from 10am to 2pm; and from 5:30 to 8:30pm.

La Petita

La Petita is also located in Poblenou, on Carrer de Marià Aguiló. It is a bright and fun children’s bookstore, with many different titles. They have a variety of topics on offer, each with the aim of grabbing the attention of young readers, from toddlers to teenagers. They also offer a variety of talks and workshops, which take place in the store. La Petita is open every day except Sunday, from 10am to 2pm; and from 5pm to 8:30pm.
