Barcelona Fashion Week

Written by Suzannah Riddell

Look out Paris, Milan, and London! This month the international fashion industry turns its attention to Catalan catwalks, for the Spring 2017 080 Barcelona Fashion.

From the 26th to the 30th of June, the iconic Sant Pau Art Nouveau site will host the brightest and best Catalan designers and brands showcasing their new collections. However, not all the action takes place on the runway. Fashion markets, food stalls, talks, and performances are just a few of the additional activities to the runway shows that make this an event a not to be missed for any dedicated followers of fashion.

Awards and Models

As they send their new collections down the catwalk, brands and designers won’t only be tipping us off to the hottest, newest trends, they will also be competing for prestigious awards.Upcoming designers compete for The Generalitat of Catalonia 080 Barcelona Fashion National Award for Emergent Design. The winner receives money to invest in business development, will be invited to present their next collection at the January 2018 080 Barcelona Fashion event, and will have a part of their collection housed at the Textile and Fashion Museum of Catalonia. Last year’s winner of the prize was Oscarleon. Established designers and brands that have an existing commercial presence in Catalonia with a turnover of between 50,000 and 2 million Euros compete for The Generalitat of Catalonia National Award for Best Collection Spring Summer 2017. Take a look at last year’s winner, Daniel Rosa.

Models

It wouldn’t be right to mention a fashion event without mentioning some of the models. Catalan homegrown models, Gerard Sabé and Xavier Serrano, which are the face of Dolce&Gabbana and Givenchy, share the runway with an international set including Bram Valbracht and Josep Abril y Torras, among others. Among the female models will be Afrodita Dorado and Giambattista Valli. Bet Callieri will return for her second visit to the Catalan catwalk, and Marina Perez will sashay down the runway no less than 25 times.
