Great English schools in Barcelona

Written by Vicky York

Barcelona has a great variety of international and bilingual schools. With so much choice it can be difficult for a parent to decide on one school, so it’s important to research which would best suit you and your child. For English schools in particular, here is a list of some of the most top schools in Barcelona.

Oak House school opened its doors in 1968 and teaches the UK National Curriculum with classes taught in English. In Year 2, students learn Spanish and the following year they begin to learn Catalan. Other additional languages are also taught at the Secondary school. The school also has great sports facilities with a gym, football and basketball courts and is a member of NABSS (National Association of British Schools of Spain).

Santa Clara International School

This trilingual international school is located in one of the most prestigious areas of Barcelona. Santa Clara was one of the first schools to place an emphasis on the English language in education. The school teaches students from 18 months up to 18 years old and the small class sizes help to provide individual teaching and to focus on each student’s abilities, needs and potential.

Collage

Collage is all about teaching English in an engaging and interactive way. Located in Gràcia, the school offers classes for both native and non-native speakers. A maximum of 10 students per class means that the students receive specialized attention to help them as they improve and develop their English language skills. Collage also offers interesting workshops including creative writing and an images course which includes short filmmaking and animation films.

Benjamin Franklin International School

The Benjamin Franklin International School offers a truly international environment for your child to study with a mix of Spanish, Catalan, American and other nationalities under one roof. The school focuses on preparing its students for universities in Spain, United States, the UK and in other countries, with three Diploma programs available to them: American High School Diploma, Spanish Baccalaureate Certificate, and International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma.

  • Hello Vicky!
thanks for all your information! We are a French family and our son (14) would like to spend time in Barcelona to learn English, Spanish but also trial!! This might be ambitious but that’s the way it is! As you know the city, I thought you might have heard about trial schools which could be near an international school, just in case!! Thanks in advance !

  • Hi!

Would you know which curriculum is followed by the Santa Clara International School?

    • I do not reccomend Santa Clara school. Most of the teachers that work then end up leaving because the school situation is not like normal schools
