Bikram yoga in Barcelona

Written by Andreas

One of the newer trends in yoga is the Bikram yoga. During 90 minutes you perform 26 yoga poses in a room heated to 40 degrees to make sure you sweat your toxins out.

Bikram yoga aims to unite the eastern and western training philosophies. The 26 poses are chosen by the founder Bikram Choudhury together with scientists and medical doctors. During the 90 minutes and the 26 poses you work through all muscles in the body, leaving no muscle behind.

Empower your health

In addition to healing injuries and empower your health, Bikram yoga also has positive effects on your concentration and stress levels. The one thing that especially sets this form of yoga apart from the numerous other versions of the Indian mind/body training method, is the fact that it is performed in a sauna like, heated room, made to resemble the climate in India. It may sound exhausting – and it is quite a “no pain, no gain”-experience- but it is the heat that makes it easier to stretch the muscles without overstretching muscles and ligaments. When you are warm, the blood flow to the muscles increases. The function of the organs also gets optimized through the increased nutrient supply and the release of toxins.

While the heat might feel a bit overpowering in the beginning, and it feels like you have a hard time breathing, you quite quickly get used to it. Make sure to listen to your body and don´t push yourself beyond what´s reasonable, and you will be fine. Also make sure to drink a lot of water during the next 24 hours.

If you are looking for a workout that is intense, you might want to try it. It is a “either you love it, or hate it”  kind of thing.
