Tai Chi classes in Gracia

Written by Diana

Tai Chi can also be known as Chinese Yoga and despite being a martial art, looks more like meditation in motion than a combat technique. According to Taoism (the philosophy from which it derives), Tai Chi deals with yin (negative, feminine) and yang (positive, masculine) energies and aims to conquer movement through stillness (or so was told by its old masters). Tai Chi is a very relaxing activity and although it can be practiced indoors, it is particularly beautiful when practiced outdoorsAs long as you know the moves you can try it everywhere but, to begin with, it is always better to have a teacher to correct and guide you.

If you are looking for a relaxing and elegant activity, Tai Chi is a very good option and Gracia has some nice places to practice it. Take a look.

Tai Chi’s main goal is to recover our natural state of tranquility, health, and relaxation and that is also the mission that guides this asociación. This Tai Chi group works as a non-profit organization and is a member of the biggest Taoist Tai Chi international organization (Fung Loy Kok Taoist Tai Chi). They have classes for beginners, advanced levels, older people and disabled people.

Where: Plaça d’En Joanic, 3.

Ilé del Ball

This is a dance school where you can learn Zumba, bachata, salsa or hip-hop. However, you can also find there Tai Chi classes oriented by Juan Garceran.

Where: Av. Príncep d’Astúries, 38.

Napati

This place does not teach pure Tai Chi. They mixed this modality with QiGong, another Chinese way of meditation in motion, whose goal is to feel and control the energy flow of your body. Thus, for those who have never tried one or another, Napati might be a fun experience. This school also teaches Yoga and Seitai. And they organize workshops about holistic therapies.

Through a physical exercise program called Activa’t (meaning “Get active” in Catalan), Barcelona organizes free classes outdoors at some city gardens. Those are normally Tai Chi and QiGong classes (mixed) or hiking sessions including exercises to stimulate the brain. If you enjoy this idea and are looking for a free Tai Chi class outdoors, you can join a class in Gràcia every Tuesday, between 12h and 13h. Check the addresses here.
