Written by Adriana

The water, light and music show in Montjüic Magic Fountain is visited by thousands of tourists and locals who are amazed by the beauty of the performance. If you are spending a period of time or a few days in one of our rental apartments in Barcelona, this is an event that, undoubtedly, you can’t miss. Hurry up because the time to enjoy of this Christmas show is running out!

At Christmas, specifically between December the 7th and January the 5th, just before the annual fountain technical maintenance, this event becomes special. The colored water dance at the rhythm of Catalan Christmas Carols such as Fum, fum, fum, El desembre congelat or A Betlem me’n vull anar, and other very known Christmas songs. All songs have been performed by famous singers such as Santi Arisa, Pau Riba, Gossos or Manel.

The duration of this aquatic choreography is from 10 to 14 minutes and has several showings between 7pm and 9pm every half hour. The location of the Magic Fountain is well known, but if you have just arrive in Barcelona, just go to the Plaza España, up to the Paseo de Maria Cristina, and right there on the Plaza Carles Buïgas you’ll run into this awesome show. Stand at a safe distance from the fountain water dispensers, as you’ll probably get wet when they reach their maximum height. You can even climb up to the balcony that is in front of the MNAC (National Art Museum of Catalonia), and enjoy the city and the Magic Fountain amazing views.

They have recently re-built four columns designed by Josep Puig I Cadafalch, one of the most important architects of Catalan Modernism, just behind the fountain which were demolished in 1928. In the place of these columns and on the occasion of the Universal Exhibition of 1929, was built the Montjüic Magic Fountain.

Hurry up and go see the show before the annual technical maintenance!
