Best places for a burger in Poblenou

Written by Thompson Crowley

The food in Spain is top notch, that can’t be denied, but what if you’ve had enough of all that delicious paella and tapas, escalivada and allioli? What if you just want to get yourself a good old fashioned burger? Well, the good news is you can! There too are many places that sell burgers in the city. Here’s our list of the top 4 in Poblenou.

Can dendé

This Brazilian-owned establishment is open everyday from 10am – 5pm, for both breakfast and lunch. A lot of people rave about the pancakes, but the burgers also are well-worth stopping in for. It’s a small but open space, full of character, and you can see all of the cooking taking place. They have a friendly little Jack Russel mascot, to whom the place is named after, greeting all the customers, and getting plenty of fuss in return. And if you’re not that schooled in your Spanish no need to worry, ordering your food in English here is completely acceptable. It has a really cosy feel to the place, and after chowing down you’ll find it hard to leave!

El pibe

El pibe is a burger bar with the added bonus of a full bar. They have a large selection of imported beers, as well as some tasty desserts. Famed for their Bratwurst and Frankfurt sausages, these burgers too are up to the same high standard. They are served in an American fast-food style – the whole place has that kind of American feel – but the quality of the meat is much higher than you would usually get in such a place. They really pride themselves on it.

Soco

Soco classes itself as a tapas bar and restaurant, but they too sell excellent burgers. It’s mainly a family place and is usually quite busy in the evenings, even on weekdays. The prices too are perhaps a little higher than the average burger place, but believe me, if you can afford it, it’s well worth that extra bit. The food is so utterly stunning, made only with the best ingredients. I would highly recommend the Iberian burger, made of Jamon and manchego. It really is a beast!

Timesburg

I’ve saved this one ‘til last, and if you go there you’ll see why. Timesburg is by far the most popular and talked about of the Poblenou burger joints. One of the things that makes them stand out is that they also sell vegetarian burgers made out of tofu. But that’s not it: all theother burgers have their own unique style. Each one is grilled to perfection, hand-crafted, with interesting additions to the bun. My favourite is the Kobe, but there are also plenty of others to choose from, and the chips that come with them are truly mouthwatering.

Address: Carrer de Pujades, 168.

So, the next time you’re in Poblenou and you’ve got that hankering, well, now you’ll know where to go!
