Where to buy your favorite American snacks

Written by Christine

While Spain certainly has delicious food, sometimes when you’re away from home, either long-term or on holiday, you want the comfort foods that remind you of where you’re from. Luckily for Americans, there are a handful of places in Barcelona where you can find your favorite American foods and snacks. Even though you still might be miles away from home, here are a few places where you can find your favorite foods to make you feel just a little bit closer.

Taste of America

Taste of America can be found in many big cities across Spain and Barcelona is lucky enough to have three locations. At this store you can find all of the American foods that you’ve been craving from home: Jif peanut butter, Arizona iced tea, and Kraft mac & cheese, just to name a few. Since all of their products are the real deal and they are coming from the States, everything at Taste of America is going to cost more than it would back home, but it’s worth it. Even though there are three stores in Barcelona, you can order all of your favorite goodies online as well and have them shipped to you for added convenience. Stop by any of the Taste of America locations in Barcelona and get snacking!

El Corte Inglés & Club del Gourmet

El Corte Inglés is a staple in Spain, since they have everything from clothes to books to food. El Corte Inglés has an extensive grocery department, extending into the Club del Gourmet where you can find gourmet and imported foods. Here you can find an assortment of American foods and snacks like Snyder’s pretzels and Frontera salsas. Everything at the Club del Gourmet is going to be expensive, but to satisfy your cravings from time to time you’re not going to break the bank. El Corte Inglés in Plaça Catalunya has a Club del Gourmet section as well as a large supermarket, so this is a great place to load up on your favorite things.

A Taste of Home

On Carrer Floridablanca (Metro Rocafort, Line 1) you will find A Taste of Home, a store that caters to the needs of American and British expats. This store carries over 2000 products from the US and the UK and if it’s not in stock when you’re in the store they will order it for you. The prices at A Taste of Home are quite reasonable, and the store is open every day of the week, including Sundays. You can find your favorite chips, sodas, and cookies, as well as a wide variety of household items like maple syrup, Duncan Hines cake mix, and Hershey’s syrup.

Dong Fang Extremo Oriente

So this isn’t an American store, but here you can find a huge variety of Asian products that you might be accustomed to eating at home and can’t find in the regular supermarket. Sriracha hot sauce is a staple in my life and at Dong Fang you can get a big bottle for a couple of euros. Nori wraps to make homemade sushi, handmade Ramen noodles to remind you of your college days, and cans of coconut milk to make your favorite curries are waiting for you here at this Asian food emporium. Dong Fang is located on Carrer Balmes, around the corner from Plaça Catalunya.
