Have a good time at Flaherty’s Irish Pub

Written by Paula

The very first Flaherty’s Irish Pub was founded not in the Catalan capital, but in the city of Seville, in a time when Irish Pubs were gaining popularity, boosted by Guiness, who used them as a way to promote their products on a global scale. Many Irish entrepreneurs recognized the opportunity and decided to start opening their own pubs in foreign lands, to be able to offer the locals a true taste of the Irish tradition of going to the pub.

Flaherty’s Irish Pub was founded by Gerry Enright, an Irish native, who had previously owned pubs in Tenerife. He decided to name the pub after Paddy Flaherty, a famous whiskey seller who operated in the region of Cork and whose legend can be read in any of the bars. But Enright’s homage to Flaherty doesn’t end there: he later had one of the Pub‘s whiskeys named after Paddy. The first Flaherty’s Irish Pub was a success and it developed into a chain of pubs in several regions of Spain.

Presence in Barcelona

If you live in Barcelona or are going for a visit, you can easily find Flahertys Irish Pub in the heart of the city, just off Las Ramblas. The pub is located in Plaza Joaquim Xirau, which can be easily reached by metro or bus. Flahertys Irish Pub is open from Monday to Thursday from 9 am to 2.30 am, Friday and Saturday from 9 am to 3 am, and Sunday from 9 am to 2 am.

They also have a sister pub in the city called Shenanigans Irish Pub, the first Irish Pub to open in Barcelona, previously called The Quiet Man. Shenanigans is located at Carrer del Marquès de Barberà, 11, in the Raval neighborhood, and it’s open from Tuesday to Friday from 6 pm to 1 am, and Saturdays and Sundays from 3:30 pm to 2:30 am.

A peek at Flaherty’s menu

Not only does Flaherty’s Irish Pub serve a great selection of draught beers, cocktails and other drinks in a traditional Irish pub setting but it also offers delicious meals. You can start your day with a hearty Irish breakfast (or the vegetarian version of it, both of which are available all day), some nice omelettes, fried eggs on toast with baked beans, or a breakfast roll. If you want to eat at any other time of the day, you can choose from a wide selection of nachos, wings, potato skins and other starters, or go for something more substantial, like a burger, sandwich, salad, jacket potatoes, grilled meat or prawns, fish and chips, bangers and mash, lasagna, chilli con carne, and much more. End your meal with a mouth-watering dessert like a Chocolate Guiness Cake or a Sticky Toffee Apple Crumble.

A great place for sports

There are very few experiences as thrilling as watching a good sports match or event, and feeling the adrenaline starting to invade your body as your team fights for the win. A lot of people prefer to watch games with some company, either by going to a bar or gathering at a friend’s or family member’s house to share the cheers and the nervous nail-biting. Irish pubs have always been great places to watch sporting events and Flaherty’s is no exception. If there is a sport you can think of, Flaherty’s will show it. Do you like the emotion of football? Do you prefer heavier contact sports like rugby or boxing? What about some high-speed sports on motorcycles or Formula 1 cars? You will find them all on a screen at Flaherty’s! Go with your friends, grab a cold one and some nachos, and start rooting for your favorites to win.

As you can see, Flaherty’s Irish Pub has a lot to offer and years of experience in the business. So make your way to Plaza Joaquim Xirau and go for an authentic Irish Pub experience without having to leave Barcelona.
