Where to eat on a budget in El Raval

Written by Thompson Crowley

Much as we’d like to, we can’t all afford to splurge on every meal. Barcelona has some extremely lavish restaurants, but unfortunately, not everyone can afford to visit them. Perhaps you’re back-packing around Europe, or are just having a cheap weekend away? Whatever the reason, if you need to be careful with what you spend, don’t worry! There are some great places to eat on a budget around the city. Here’s our top 5 in El Raval:

5 Nostrum

There are many Nostrum jotted all over the city. The one in El Raval is located on Carrer Tallers, 81. They serve takeaway meals from as little as €1! They have a good selection of dishes, such as soups, pasta, rice, vegetarian meals, fish dishes, and croquettes. They also sell desserts and fruit. And they have a mobile app too, which, if you download it, can give you access to the great offers of the Nostrum fan club.

On the outskirts of El Raval, located on Carrer de Les Flors, 16, close to Av. del Parallel, the Domino bar also has some reasonably priced dishes on offer. Their specialty is the Italian-style pizza, which is delicious. But they also have many other dishes to choose from, like nachos. And they also have a great cocktail selection which is also very cheap. A kind of all rounder where you can have both dinner and drinks for under 20.

3 A tu Bola

If you’re looking for quality vegetarian food at a reasonable price then A tu Bola, located on Carrer de l’Hospital is the place for you. They serve a variety of fast-food style Mediterranean dishes, all under 10. They also serve some meat dishes, as well as the meat-free options, usually served up in pitta bread. The staff try their best to speak English and are very kind and friendly.

2 Las Fernández

Combining gastronomic quality homemade food with reasonable prices, Las Fernández is located on Carrer de les Carretes, 11. A prime example of the style there is the usually humble bacon roll, served to you with a prime shoulder of pork, stuffed with avocado au gratin. They have a wide range of tapas dishes and you can choose to have a half dish if you like. Prices start from 5€ and they also sell drinks. And it’s not only cheap, it too has a colorful atmosphere which you can soak up whilst eating your meal.

La Boqueria market is located on La Rambla, 91, close to the Liceu subway station. Here you can buy a wide range of meats and fresh vegetables. It’s the best place to get hold of all those tasty Mediterranean ingredients. And guess what, it’s also pretty cheap! You’ll have to be selective with what you look for, but you can grab yourself enough food for a couple of meals for way under 10€. There are also plenty of samples to be taken advantage of. So, if you’ve got a place to cook, this is definitely a place to visit.

And there you have it. If you’re traveling on a budget and are staying in El Raval, don’t worry, there are plenty of places where you can eat without breaking the bank!
