Alternative ways of exercising

A lot of people want to improve their health or get in shape but find it hard to feel motivated to exercise. The problem is, going to the gym and sweating is a concept that some find absolutely awful.

If you are one of the hundreds of people that are not that in love with exercising, here are some alternative ways to get your body moving.

Swimming

exercise barcelonaIf you enjoy swimming, you won’t feel like your exercising. You don’t have to jump into a pool and do one hundred laps in crawl or butterfly strokes. Take it easy. Start slowly with some freestyle swimming and kick your legs a little harder here and there. You can take as long as you want and make it as easy or hard as you’d like. Little by little it will become easier for you to develop the habit of going for a swim.

There are lots venues with pools in Barcelona. The biggest free “pool” in the city is the warm and peaceful Mediterranean Sea.

Dancing 

It’s so fun to dance! You feel sexy, you feel confident and you burn a bunch of calories without even noticing! So don’t look at dance classes as something you do simply as a hobby, but an activity that actually improves your physical wellbeing. Walking

Some people may laugh if you say that one of your favorite forms of exercise is walking, but the fact is that this simple action can help to improve your health significantly. Walking reduces the risk of heart disease and stroke, does wonders for your cholesterol and diabetes, prevents and reduces joint and muscular pain and stiffness, and increases your cardiovascular and pulmonary fitness. Pretty good, right?

We all walk a little bit every day to run our errands and go to work but to see lasting results, try taking some time off to simply walk. Going for a long walk by the beach or a hike on one of Barcelona’s various mountains are great ways to get your body moving while enjoying the wonderful view.

Biking

Buy yourself a bike, borrow, rent or go for a Bicing membership and start exploring the city on a vehicle that is powered by your energy. You can bike by the beach, go up to Montjuïc or even pedal all the way to Tibidabo. There are a number of excellent biking routes for those who just want to spend a pleasant time feeling the wind their hair, admiring the passing views.
