Everything you need to know about renting apartmens and homes in Barcelona with an elevator

Cities are growing every year, and many taller buildings in each city are designed as apartment buildings to become our home. Barcelona is no exception, and although there are some areas with apartment towers or detached houses in the Catalan capital, this is not usual. For this reason, buildings need to have an elevator, especially for loading heavy items, such as when grocerie shopping or moving in or out of the apartment, but also for the convenience of not having to climb many floors. Barcelona has made a great effort to add an elevator to most of its buildings, but it is true that some old constructions, which have a very narrow staircase, have problems implementing it. This occurs mostly in neighbourhoods with old buildings, in which narrow constructions were built and where the greater part of the surface was destined for apartments. As a result, they left the access to each apartment by staircase as small as possible. Some districts that suffer this problem are: Ciutat Vella, Gracia and Sants. But as we mentioned before, it is now usual for most buildings to have an elevator. The comfort of this construction element is well known, and an apartment building that has an elevator, can raise the price of higher floors in a building, such as for penthouses for example. It is common, that higher apartments in buildings that do not have an elevator, are quite cheaper than those that do enjoy an elevator. If you want to rent a flat in Barcelona, and you have young children, or you are of older age, it is normal to need a property with an elevator.

Advantages of renting an apartment with an elevator in Barcelona

Renting an apartment with an elevator is a great advantage, especially since maintenance costs are usually borne by the owner, so the tenant can enjoy it completely free of charge. The higher floors in a building, especially the top floor apartments or penthouses with terraces that many people fancy in Barcelona, have a plus if they have an elevator. As we have said in other occasions, an apartment with a terrace can be an excellent option when renting a house in the Ciudad Condal, largely thanks to the splendid weather of the Catalan capital. For this reason, many people who decide to rent an apartment in higher constructions, which also provides better views and more daylight, focus on their most important condition of having an elevator. You must bear in mind, that in some cases top floor apartments are on the fourth or fifth floor (at least) of a building, so having an elevator can substantially improve life. While it is true that it is good for your health to climb stairs daily, loaded with shopping bags, strollers or children, it can be very annoying when having to climb several floors.
