Best places to buy wine in Eixample

Written by Thompson Crowley

There are many vineyards located throughout Spain, all producing a variety of high-quality wines. Whether it’s Rioja, Tempranillo, Garnacha, or Macabeo that takes your fancy, whatever you choose will be sure to leave a nice taste in your mouth. Catalonia is no different; the region is home to many different grape plantations, supplying the industry with top products, such as Cava.

The Spanish passion for food goes hand in hand with their love of wine; the two complement each other perfectly. Most restaurants will give just as much attention to the wine menu as they do to the food menu, making sure customers can have that full, all round experience that they seek.

But what if you want the wine without the food? What if you want a little something to take away? There many excellent wine stores located throughout the city where you can grab a bottle to go.

Here are our top 3 in Eixample.

Colmado Quilez

Colmado Quilez is part of the Lafuente chain of stores, spread throughout Catalonia. They have a vast selection of wines on sale, some local, and others from further afield. Everything is strategically placed on the shelves to make finding your preferred bottle as easy as possible; and if you need a little help, the staff is always pleased to give you just that. The store has two floors, the top one being dedicated to the wines. Downstairs you will find a great selection of liquors and malt whisky, as well as some different cheeses.

Xarcuterias Gelabert

Xarcuterias Gelabert is a well-stocked food and wine store. From the moment you see how full the wide shop windows are at the entrance, your mouth will be watering. As well as selling many edibles, they have a great choice of wines. Most of these are from the Catalan region, giving you a real feel for local products. The prices are very reasonable, so it’s hard to leave without taking more than you can carry!
