With two months’ worth of shows and an impressive variety of artists from all over the world, it’s highly recommended that you check out the festival’s full program in order to choose the events that most interest you. These are just some of the highlights:

Los Van Van (Thursday, October 20 at BARTS) – With an extense discography that kicked off in 1969 and a Grammy Award to their credit (for their 1999 record “Llégo Van Van”) this Cuban band has already earned legendary status. Expect to be electrified by an ecletic fusion of instruments and genres, ranging from flutes to drum machines and from salsa to rock & roll.

Hiromi: The Trio Project (Wednesday, October 26 at Palau de la Música Catalana) – After spending the last 13 years impressing audiences all over the globe with her sophisticated approach to the genre, jazz pianist Hiromi Uehara brings her music to Barcelona for the first time. Accompanied by bassist Anthony Jackson (Steely Dan, Paul Simon, Chick Corea) and drummer Simon Phillips (Toto, Jeff Beck, David Gilour, The Who), Hiromi will be presenting her brand new album, “Spark”.

Lizz Wright (Tuesday, November 1 at L’Auditori, Sala 2) – A jazz and R&B singer from Georgia, Wright is gifted with an extraordinary soulful voice that will surely warm-up Barcelona this fall.

James Brandon Lewis (Tuesday, November 8 at Conservatori del Liceu) – A tenor saxophonist and composer, JBL plays a uniquely spiritual brand of improvisational jazz and funk. We highly recommend that you check out his third and latest album, “Days of Freeman” (2015), which has earned him considerable acclaim.

Michael Nyman Band (Thursday, November 10 at Palau de la Música Catalana) – Directed by multi-platinum British composer Michael Nyman, this group has been operating since 1976. With experienced musicians and a rich repertoire, this classical inspired ensemble is sure to be one of the highlights of this year’s Voll-Damm Festival.
