Quinto tapa in Cornellà

Written by David

Are you tired of having tapas in the busy centre? Do you want to experience a more authentic Barcelona? Discover Cornellà, just 25 minutes from Plaça Catalunya by RENFE train (line R4) or metro using the blue line (metro stop Cornellà Centre). You can also take many buses or the FGC trains. And what better excuse than some tapas for this discovery?

Quinto-tapa. How does it work?

From the 30th of April to the 24th of May 18 bars around Cornellà offer the quinto-tapa deal, that is a Moritz quinto (20 cl bottle) and an elaborated tapa for 2.5€ or 3€. You have two different prices because you have two choices, between tapa de la casa or for 50 cents more the Km0 tapa, using local and high quality products. If you don’t like beer or don’t want to drink a lot, you can order water for the same price or wine or a soft-drink for 50 extra cents. To know the bars that offer the deal and the tapas they are serving you have a booklet and a map with all the information and photographs of all the tapas (you can also check the website). Make sure you also check for the times, not all tapas are offered all day long.

The bars and the tapas

Many of the 18 bars participating in the quintotapa are located around the centre, so I would recommend getting off at Cornellà Centre (metro blue line) or Cornellà (RENFE) and walk around. You can also get off at the FGC stop (Cornellà-Riera, remember the ferrocarrils start at Plaça Espanya) and from there discover the different bars and tapas walking to the centre (it’s like a 10 minutes walk).

It would also be a good idea to have a look at the photographs of the tapas the different bars are offering and plan which ones you want to try beforehand. In this edition there are several small gourmet burgers, a cone filled with chips and ham or langoustine puffs (buñuelos de langostinos) that look like cherries!

The contest

If you feel like trying all the tapas that are offered you can also participate in the quinto-tapa contest. You just have to get the “tapaport” in any of the bars, and ask for a stamp every time you try a tapa. You can then vote for the best tapa and the best waiter, and enter a drawing for different prizes just by submitting your vote. There’s also a prize for the best picture in instagram tagged with #quintotapa or #quintotapakny.

So, what are you waiting for? Enjoy the tapas and the scenery of the outskirts of Barcelona at the same time!

Remember that in ShBarcelona you have rentals near Plaça Catalunya and other ideal locations, perfect to move around the Barcelona area (including Cornellà) in public transport.
