Why You Should Move to Barcelona Even if You Don’t Know A Single Person

Written by Ashley B

Moving to a new city alone is an exhilarating yet intimidating experience. Everything about the city is shiny, new, and unknown.  The unknown can make this the best venture you have ever taken on or the riskiest. Barcelona is one of those cities where there are so many pros for being the city you choose to move to on your own. It is the perfect city for discovering your full adventure potential.

If you do not believe me, allow me to convince you. This is why you should move to Barcelona even if you don’t know a single person.

Another reason why Barcelona is the ideal place to move to even if you don’t know a single person is because of its landscape. It is home to the most breathtaking mountain top views. Take a day off of work or school to hike to Tibidabo and enjoy the view while walking through the theme park at the top. Hike up to Bunkers de Carmel and enjoy the sunset with Barcelona locals. If you want an amazing workout with rewarding views of Barcelona, climb 800 steps to the tip-top of Monserrat.

Barcelona is also home to some of the most beautiful beaches. You can enjoy 32 km of sandy, sunny, and relaxing beaches. Barcelona has the best of both worlds— mar y montaña (sea and mountain).

“No friendship is an accident” -O. Henry

This quote cannot be more true, especially when it comes to making friends in Barcelona. Barcelona is a city made up of people from all over the world. French, German, Italian, Americans and many more cultured people travel across the world to make Barcelona HOME. Barcelona is the hub for diversity and friendship. Meeting like-minded people from different parts of the world helps you feel less alone. It also eases the initial European culture shock.

Finding friends in Barcelona is so easy because everyone is looking to meet people. Roommates quickly become your support system. Strangers you meet at events like intercambios or Facebook frisbee groups brighten your day. Your friendship here become your lifeline. Your Barcelona Family.

With so many diverse people living in Barcelona you can expect there to be dozens of events with the sole purpose of bringing everyone together. There are weekly celebrations whose goals include education and entertainment. Every corner you turn you either bump into a parade or have just missed one. The evidence lies on the confetti-filled floor left behind.

As the summer begins to creep up, so do the number of events you must attend. Roof top party music will fill the night skies through the late hours of the night. And Sunday markets will reenergize you for another tedious work week. Fill your calendars and enjoy.
