Cartell Fira Modernista 2014If you are visiting Barcelona in May there is one exhibition that you really should consider taking in during your time there. The exhibition I am talking about here is the Fira Modernista de Terrassa. This exhibition takes place in Terrassa not far from the centre of Barcelona and which revolves around all things relating to Modernism.

The first fair was held back in 2003 and since then it has grown in prestige and popularity. In fact such has its growth been that it is now recognized by the Generalitat as one of Catalonia’s most important tourist attractions. In fact in 2010 it was awarded a prize in the Communication and Public Relations awards ceremony held that year.

Every year hundreds of thousands of visitors descend on this fair and these numbers will continue to grow every year that it takes place. Throughout the week numerous events take place and offers you to enjoy wonderful food and culture. Plus there are plenty of activities to keep the kids amused.

FIRA Modernista BarcelonaHowever one thing not to be missed during a visit to this fair is the various markets that are set up. Here you have the opportunity to view and even purchase goods that have been made by craftsmen and artists from the across the country using skills that over 100 years old. Along with various shows and exhibitions there are a number of musical events that take place during the fair so there is sure to be something for all to enjoy.

The Modernism Fair offers artists and craftsmen alike the opportunity to show case their innovative and colourful works. Plus allows you to learn more about the architecture and that played such a huge part in Catalan’s culture during the early part of the 19th Century.

The best way to reach the fair is to hire a car. Where it is located is only a short drive from the centre of Barcelona meaning you can enjoy all it has to offer in a day. However make sure that you give yourself plenty of time not only to take in the market, but also enjoy a show or two and of course to sample some of the delicious food on offer.
