El Born is an area that is rich in Barcelona’s history and a popular place to live for history buffs, art lovers, and foodies alike. One bodega that you should visit in this neighborhood is Bodega La Puntual located on Carrer Montcada. This bar has an extensive wine list that covers many regions of Spain and some from France as well. Whether you are looking for red, white, sparkling, or everything in between, you can get it by the glass or by the bottle at La Puntual. You can also try something to munch on from the tapas menu, something to pair perfectly with your wine. There is a great selection of Iberian meats and cheeses to choose from in addition to classic tapas like patatas bravas, ensaladilla, and croquetas. Everything is moderately priced and delicious in an environment that is warm and welcoming.

El Xampanyet

Located between on Carrer de Montcada you will find El Xampanyet, one of the most famous and unique bars in Barcelona. This bar serves up homemade cava, or sparkling wine that is a Catalan speciality. This bar is quite small and is a mix of old and new, young and old, modern and traditional. It’s often busy and bustling and you will most likely have to wait for a table, but it’s worth it to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy a glass of cava with a tasty tapa. If you are on vacation in Barcelona and only have time to visit one bar, this is the place you must visit to get a true sense of what Catalan culture is all about.

Right off of the Passeig del Born you will find El Diset, a wine bar that is more modern than El Puntual or El Xampanyet and serves up wine and food in a more contemporary way. You can order wines from different regions including those made in Catalonia or other regions of Spain by the bottle or by the glass. El Diset also offers more modern food like an open-faced sandwich of grilled onions, roquefort cheese, and apple. This bar has a more upscale and classy vibe to it while still keeping the prices moderate. This is the place to go if you’re looking for a wine bar with a more relaxed atmosphere.

Bodega Maestrazgo

Bodega Maestrazgo is a classic neighborhood in El Born, dating back decades as a place for residents in the area to get their wine. Here you can bring a container and have it filled right from the barrel with your wine of choice or you can order a glass and go to the seating area in the back to enjoy with a tapa or two. This bodega isn’t very touristy and is the real deal when it comes to wine. It’s cheap, delicious, and a unique experience in Barcelona.
