Whether you’re coming from Madrid or from halfway across the world, traveling by airplane is one of the best ways to get to Barcelona. If you’re on a budget, European low-cost airlines like Ryanair and Easy Jet are great options for saving a little money on travel. Also, Barcelona-based Vueling Airlines travels between Barcelona and several other European hubs. With frequent flights connecting Barcelona to the rest of Europe, air travel to and from Barcelona is easy. If you choose to fly to Barcelona, you’ll arrive at the Barcelona-El Prat airport, a convenient 25-minute bus ride from the city center.

If you’re coming from another city in Spain or the south of France, traveling by train is one of the easiest ways to get to Barcelona. The RENFE, Spain’s national rail service, is quite reliable. If you’re coming from Madrid, RENFE’s high-speed AVE trains will get you to Barcelona in a quick two and a half hours. The trains are comfortable, almost always on-time, and oftentimes more convenient than flying because they take you from city center to city center without the hassle of having to arrive hours early for departure.

Take a Bus

Traveling by bus is probably the cheapest way to get to Barcelona from the rest of Spain, Portugal, or France. Companies like ALSA, which operates bus services all around Spain, provide the possibility to travel long distances at reasonable rates. Long-distances buses arrive in and depart from Barcelona at the main bus stations in the city, Sants Station and Barcelona Nord.
