Camping Les Illes – Montseny | Barcelona

les illes Campsite Montseny

When you had enough of hustle and bustle of Barcelona, there is much in the way of verdant greenery but a short drive from the city (along the AP7 which runs between Girona and Barcelona). What better way to experience the nature than in a tent?

Les Illes campsite is situated in the heart of Montseny (pronounced Monsen), a few kilometres walk from the summit, which sits at around 1700m. The campsite itself nests about 400m below in a valley between snow-covered peaks and guarded by rolling, verdant hills.

Offering standard facilities, such as toilet blocks, wifi, a swimming pool (during high season), washing facilities, and a bar, the site provides a complete get away in a location that is a genuine retreat from the world at large.

Pitches are unmarked and laid out in tiers with plenty of space for both tents and camper vans. At the top sits a lovely, rustic looking bar, watching over the entire site like a tribal elder.

Exploring Montseny

The campsite serves as a good base to explore Montseny and its peaks, valleys, and rivers. Not too far away there is a monastery, a small dam and a tricky but walkable cascading mountain stream with waterfalls.

As far as food goes, the restaurant offers fairly standard Spanish dishes (high season only) but will happily sell you fresh bread and a number of other staples. However, a short drive away there are typical restaurants serving meals and snacks. If you want to self cater, then a short drive into town (or pick groceries up on the way to the site) will give you access to a small supermarket, bakeries etc. Beware, that siesta times and early closing on Saturdays (and not at all on Sundays) very much still apply here.

The drive up to the site is terrific: winding mountain roads that offer more and more spectacular views the higher you get.

Plenty of information about local attractions and tracks is available in the bar and the lady who owns the site is very friendly and accommodating. The site is very dog friendly and the owners have a couple themselves along with two horses, a pony and some chickens.

  • Hi good morning, we want to suggest you visit the north face of the Montseny, there are the village of Viladrau and our town (Espinelves). They are two very pretty villages and there are also walking routes. We have a small camping like illes. In october in Viladrau you can visit the Fairof Chestnut, and in December you can visit “Fair of fir” in Espinelves, which are very interesting, with vendors of handmade products. If you’re ever around here we would like to camp at our campsite and we would make a discount.
