Facebook groups for expats in Barcelona

Written by Karen

You’ve most likely already been a member of one or more Facebook expat groups if you’ve settled yourself in a few different places around the world. Whether you’ve arrived alone in Barcelona or you’re with your partner or family, online expat communities are a great resource while you’re navigating your way through a move to a new city. Types of questions you may look to these sites for could be about rooms to rent in Barcelona, how to get your NIE or where to find the best gym or yoga classes in the city. So if you’re new in town, why not sign up to one or more of these Facebook groups for expats in Barcelona.

A public Facebook group with nearly 10,000 members, Barcelona Expats was set up for foreigners living in Barcelona, describing itself as a public forum to help expats “facilitate life in the city” through tips, solving issues and answering questions about everyday kind of issues. The topics you’ll tend to see on Barcelona Expats include people looking for rooms to rent as well as listings for the places available. There also many posts about completing the different types of Spanish Government paperwork you’re likely to encounter, as well details of upcoming social events in Barcelona.

Girls Gone International Barcelona

Girls Gone International Barcelona is a closed group with around 750 members, forming part of a wider and worldwide online network for women living overseas. It positions itself as being a site for the new “digital generation of internationals, expats, travellers, wanderlusts and repats” and counts over 70,000 members around the world across its different Facebook groups. It’s a great group to join if you’re new to Barcelona and looking to meet other likeminded and independent women abroad, not just online but by attending many of the organised social events posted and shared among members. Girls Gone International (the overarching body of the Barcelona group) also has a free online magazine as well as presence across many other social media platforms including LinkedIn and Pinterest.

Moving to Barcelona is another public Facebook group and has nearly 5,000 members. It refers to itself as the “place for advice” on people looking to make a move to Barcelona. The types of posts you’ll find are usually shared from local business pages, with anything from job listings in Barcelona through to advertisements for long board classes or language exchange opportunities. It’s less conversational and more promotional than some of the other expat Facebook groups in Barcelona but still serves as another handy resource for those new to the city.

  • Hi Karen,

I’m trying to reach out to people affected by Brexit, of any nationality. I’m not seeking any personal information but if you could let me know of any events taking place that I could pop along to I would really appreciate it.

    Many thanks
