Casa de Carrasco Yoga Retreat

Written by Dorothy

Yoga combined with nature is the perfect combination for disconnecting from everyday life, for re-connecting with self and re-energizing mind and body. At the Casa de Carrasco Yoga Retreat you can truly enjoy a healthy dose of fresh air and wellbeing. Set in a 1o acre olive and almond farm in Rasquera, in the beautiful Tarragona countryside, not far from Barcelona, you can enjoy the warm climate, take part in open air yoga and a range of outdoor cultural activities. Ideal for those looking for a truly virtuous holiday.

Yoga retreat Barcelona

With capacity for 16 guests, this is an intimate, family run retreat, offering a simple and relaxed lifestyle. The retreat is open between Easter and September, which is the best time to enjoy the region’s temperate climate and lush green landscape.

In the mornings there is one led open air yoga class. These take place on a circular open-air platform, where you will stretch out towards stunning views of the Tarragona landscape. What a way to start the day! The class is a Sivananda fusion style taught by experienced teacher and host Sarah Good. Unlike the more energetic Ashtanga vinyasa style of yoga, Sivananda concentrates more on relaxation and yogic breathing, in addition to the asanas (postures). The classes are suitable for all levels, from beginners to advanced. This is followed by a nutritious breakfast, giving a truly healthy kick start to the day.

After this, the day is yours to do absolutely whatever you fancy, be it relaxing, wandering or taking part in a variety of activities on offer in the area. The location, situated within the Serra de Cardo Natural Park (an hour’s drive from Tarragona city), is set in the mountains 12 miles above the Costa Daurada and its white sand beaches. There are many activities to be enjoyed such as hiking trails, fishing or canoeing on the river Ebro, tours of vineyards, and trips to the beaches and castles. For maximum relaxation, you can also enjoy some massage treatments available on site. So you don’t even need to be a yoga enthusiast to enjoy this retreat as there is so much on offer.

Casa de Carrasco

Casa de Carrasco offers a range of accommodation options, catering for all budgets. You can bring your own tent and bedding for camping, or else rent a single pop-up tent complete with bedding. For more luxurious camping, you can stay in a larger safari tent. Prepare dinner under the stars, with outdoor cooking facilities available (there are also indoor facilities). There is also a house/common area where campers can go to relax in comfort in their free time. You can purchase fresh produce and the retreat’s very own organic olive oil in the small on-site shop.

If you really like your home comforts and luxuries, be warned that the electricity is provided by solar system. So forget irons, hair dryers and hair straighteners!

If camping isn’t up your street, the other option is to stay in a traditional Spanish stone house with terracotta floors and rustic wooden beams. Double or single occupancy rooms are available, with an en-suite bathroom. A morning yoga class and breakfast are also included in the cost of accommodation. Self-catering is available in the open-plan kitchen. See here for more details.
