Each city has its own favorite lager beer. In Barcelona, people like drinking Estrella because it is brewed locally, while in Madrid, people drink Mahou because it is brewed in the capital.

To make sure that you order the right amount of beer, try to learn some of these Spanish terms: a tubo (30 cl.) is a narrow glass and a jarra (50 cl.) is the equivalent of a pint or a jar of beer. Both come from the draught beer dispenser (‘de barril’ in Spanish).

If you want to taste an Estrella beer, ask for a tercio, instead! A tercio is a 33 cl. bottle of beer. A quinto is a 20 cl. bottle. For those who drink less, just ask for a caña (20 cl.)

In Barcelona and Catalonia, people also say a botellín or a quinto to refer to that size. How much is a pint of beer in Spain?

The answer depends on the place, but it is not too expensive. It starts at 1 euro for a caña and 1.20 or 1.50 euros for a bottle of beer.
