Why the ONLY team is BARCA

Written by Emily Elwes

If you are a football fan, which most Europeans are, then an argument can be made that Barca should be your one and only primary supported team. If you live in Catalonia it is easy to see why this is the case (as described below), but even if you live outside Spain, and considering a UEFA Championship team to become a fan of, then Barca again should be your only choice. The plentiful reasons below can be mulled over while spending a great week in a luxury apartment in Barcelona while taking in a Barca game.

As one of the oldest teams in Europe and Spain its illustrious history cannot be ignore when considering a football team to support. There are reasons why sports dynasties are created and get fans enamored with their teams. Just as Manchester United, the New England Patriots, New York Yankees, Toronto Maple Leafs and other premier sports teams have become synonymous with huge fan bases; Barca is in a league with these top teams in its rich history. Founded in 1899 in a general call meeting for players, FC Barcelona was born. Interestingly enough the call was placed by a Swiss professional footballer and inaugural members included English and Catalonian players. It has gone through many machinations and stadiums and even suffered through persecution through two Spanish Civil Wars, yet has somehow remained to stay true to Barcelona and the pursuit of perfect football. This is only the tip of its storied history but is a strong testament to its fortitude in the face of harsh conditions.

One thing that most sports fans love, is a winning team. Now this does not have to mean a consistently winning team, such as every game, as that is impossible. Yet having a number of championships, winning teams, dream teams and memorable moments over the course of the history of the club, helps remind fans why they stick through the tough times to enjoy the next upswing in the club’s fortunes. FC Barcelona has quite a number of championships including, 22 La Liga, 26 Copa del Rey, 11 Supercopa de Espana, 3 Copa Eva Duarte, and 2 Copa de la Liga and just happens to be the record holder club for the last four. With a further 4 UEFA Champions League, a record 4 UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, 4 UEFA Super Cups, and 2 FIFA World Cup trophies; their record is simply impressive by any standard. Add to that the 2009 Sextuple Win when they won the 6 largest championships nationally and in Europe and became the only European club to do so in history. However for most fans this pales in comparison to the importance of its brand success in Barcelona and as a major symbol of Catalan pride and nationalism.

Leave that luxury apartment behind and cozy up next to a cule (true fan) at the next FC Barcelona game and make the right choice, the only choice; Barca.

If Barca is not your team let us know why and who your team is.
