The best bars for game day

Written by Christine

When FC Barcelona is playing, hordes of fans get together to watch the match and share drinks at their local bar. If you have come for a visit or are now living in Barcelona, why not adopt the tradition and round up some friends for a session of drinking and cheering?

Here are the best bars to go to on game day.

The George Payne

Sports barThe George Payne is the largest Irish pub in Barcelona and the perfect place to watch a Barça match. A stone’s throw away from the Urquinaona subway stop, this bar is located right in the center of the city.  The George Payne is well-known among students as a place to grab a cheap drink since you can get a bucket or 5 beers to share with friends for about 10 euros. On game day, they set up a giant projector in the bar and the fans pack in to get a bit of the action. This bar is always crowded so it’s best to get there a bit early if you want to snag a table.

Sports Bar

Burger and BeerSports Bar is located right on La Rambla and is one of the most popular places in Barcelona to watch matches. In the style of an American or Irish pub, this venue covers all sports events and is frequently packed with Barça fans. Sports Bar has 16 screens set up throughout the place to make sure nobody misses a single kick. The bar is a little bit touristy so you may find the beer pricey, but it’s one of the coolest places to watch the match in the city.

La Taverna de Barcelona

La Taverna is the place to go if you want to experience something more traditional. A Spanish bar with a 1930’s style, La Taverna has been a fan-favorite for years. If you are thinking of going to La Taverna with friends for a game day, I advise you to call to book a table in advance or to show up early to guarantee you find some seating.

Any bar close to Camp Nou

Camp NouThe home of FC Barcelona is the massive and impressive Camp Nou.  If you’re not one of the lucky ones to be inside the stadium, check out the bars surrounding it. On match day, the area around Camp Nou is flooded with fans congregating in the bars outside.

There isn’t one particular bar to recommend since all of them will be filled with fellow fans rooting on the time.

Just being near the stadium on game day is an experience in itself!
