History

Although Barcelona’s port cable car was completed in 1931, it was closed during the Spanish Civil War when the cars were removed and the towers were used for defense of the port. After the war, the Teleféricos de Barcelona Company took over the service and it began running again in 1963, taking passengers between Montjüic Mountain and Barceloneta. The Telefèrico del Puerto includes two towers and a station at Miramar on Montjüic Mountain and offers some of the most beautiful views of the city and sea beyond.

The Ride

The total ride spans just under 1.3 kilometers in length and takes around ten minutes to complete. The tower of San Sebastián on Barceloneta Beach sits at around 70 meters above sea level, while the Jaime I tower, located on the pier, sits at 101 meters above sea level. Each cabin holds up to nineteen people. On the ride up from Barceloneta to Miramar on Montjüic Mountain, you will get to experience stunning views of the beach, the W Hotel, and the entire city of Barcelona in the distance. Once you reach Miramar, you can explore Montjüic Moutain, take in the views, see the castle, visit the Fundació Joan Miro, or explore the many beautiful gardens.
