A night out at the Olympic Port

Written by Joe Thurston

Barcelona has an amazing nightlife! Wherever you are staying in the city, there will be many bars that are open long into the night, where you can spend a fun couple of hours with your friends. However, the main place to party until the early hours of the morning is the Olympic Port and its surrounding areas, which have everything you may need for a great night out.

Before you begin your night out, you are going to need to line your stomach with a good meal. At the far end of Olimpic Port, if you are entering from the main entrance on the side of the old town, there is a whole row of lovely restaurants.

For a traditional Spanish meal, with tapas, paella and seafood, go to La Fonda del Port Olimpic.

If you are in a mood for seafood, head on to El Cangrejo Loco, where you can have a nice meal of clams or some scrumptious codfish puffs.

La Fitora serves Mediterranean food that includes great meat, fish and seafood dishes and a variety of desserts to choose from.

If you feel like having your meal in a more exotic venue, head on to Jerusalem, where you will find a variety of dishes such as vegetable moussaka, kibes, empanadas, couscous and much more.

For a nice, traditional hamburger, Vitamina’s Burger & Beach Bar is the place to go. They also serve tapas, salads and even the British traditional fish and chips.

Bars

Once you have had your meal, it’s time to head to a bar. Whether you want a chilled out drink while having a shisha, or a pre-club dance, you will find it in this area.

For a drink accompanied by shisha, head on down to Khalijia Shisha Bar at Moll de Mestral. F

For drinks in a chilled-out venue, pay a visit to IceBarcelona, at Ramón Trías Fargas, where you can enjoy a good cocktail at sub-zero temperatures.

If cocktails are more of your scene, pay a visit to Smar, where you will be able to enjoy your drink to the sound of Bachata, Merengue, Salsa, House or Dance.

Clubs

It’s now time to head to a club. Most of these are up the steps from the Olympic Port. They look tiny from the outside but don’t be fooled. Underground they boast massive dance floors. Take note: the queues to these in the height of season can be absolutely huge! So instead of just picking one, pay attention to the offers from the promoters outside and see which club has a particularly good deal that night.

Opium Barcelona is one of the most famous nightclubs in the city, known for its wild parties and its cosmopolitan feel.

Shôko is both a restaurant and a lounge club where legendary afterparties have taken place, featuring stars like Madonna, Elton John, Lady Gaga and bands like Coldplay and The Killers.

Club Catwalk is a club with two dance rooms that feature different styles of music like R&B, House and Hits. The club also has a terrace and 4 private rooms.

Pacha Barcelona is one of the many nightclubs in the Pacha chain. The club is constantly organizing events, with something special to offer every day of the week.

Casino

The Olympic Port is also home to the main casino in Barcelona, which can be found at Calle Marina, 19-21.  This modern looking building has all kinds of tables and slot machines, ideal for whichever game you would like to try your chances on. It also has a great terrace to have a celebratory drink once you have won your millions.

Overall, the Olympic Port is far from a cheap night out, but it is the main place to do it in the city.
