Going to the amusement park is a great way to spend a day with the kids in Barcelona. Or why not with other grown ups? Riding the ferry wheel or walking the hall of mirrors, it becomes evident that we are all still kids at heart. We never really grow up, do we?
Close to Barcelona, you have the following options:
Tibidabo amusement park
Tibidabo amusement park is the nearest to Barcelona and only 30 minutes from Plaça de Catalunya by a special bus service called the Tibibus . The opening hours vary depending on the time of year, so it´s best to check their webpage for information.
This 100 year old amusement park is one of the oldest in the world, and have 25 rides for all ages. Among other attractions there is a 4D cinema and roller coaster called Muntanya Russa. The latter benefits from one of the most spectacular settings in the world for a roller coaster, the 512 m high Tibidabo mountain overlooking Barcelona. The spectacular view over the city is in itself reason enough to contemplate a visit to this lovely theme park.
The park also has a wide range of facilities for visitors including restaurants, many with amazing views, picnic areas and a whole lot of other other services.
Port adventura
Port Adventura is located in Salou, 1 hour and 20 minutes by train. You can get there from Barcelona by RENFE trains from Barcelona Sants or Passeig de Gràcia in Barcelona city centre. Alternatively you can catch a bus from Barcelona Sants rail station.
The theme park is divided into six sections: Mediterrania, Far West, Mexico, China, Polynesia, and Sésamo Aventura, all with their specific themes, as revealed by their names. The most significant attractions are the themed roller coasters like the Chinese styled Dragon Khan, one of the biggest in Europe.
Illa fantasia
The third option is a water park, Illa fantasia . The obvious choice for the hotter summer days.
The Illa Fantasia water park has over 20 different water slides and 3 large swimming pools – plenty of water to cool off even the sunniest day in Barcelona.
It is located a 30 minute train ride from the city centre. You can get directions on how to get there and other information on their website.
