All about Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona

Are you thinking of studying in Barcelona? Then take a moment to learn about Universitat Pompeu Fabra. One of the newest universities in Spain, Universitat Pompeu Fabra was founded in 1990, inspired by the principles of justice, equality, freedom, democracy, independence, and plurality. The university was named after a Catalan philologist by the name of Pompeu FabraUPF is considered to be one of the best 200 universities in the world, according to Times Higher Education.

One of the university’s main objectives is to contribute towards the development of outstanding research, which it has successfully achieved year after year, ranking as the number one university in scientific productivity in Spain.

Pompeu Fabra’s faculty consists of more than 100 professionals, some of which are famous directors, philosophers, journalists, poets, and economists.

The university has three different campuses: one in Ciutadella, dedicated to Social Sciences and Humanities, one in Poblenou, dedicated to ITC and Communication Sciences, and one in Barceloneta, dedicated to Health and Sciences.

Undergraduates can study the fields of Law, Translation and Language Sciences, Economics and Business, Communication, Political and Social Sciences, Health and Life Sciences, Humanities, and Engineering. They can also choose cross-disciplinary studies, affiliated centers bachelor’s degrees or a bachelor degrees combination.

Those who want a Master’s Degree have various choices such as Contemporary Film and Audiovisual Studies, Design and Communication, Accounting and Financial Management, Data Science, Chinese Studies, Cognitive Systems & Interactive Media, Immigration Management, and Current Democracies.

Universitat Pompeu Fabra also offers Doctoral Programs in the fields of History, Humanities, Law, Information and Communication Technologies, Biomedicine, Economic and Business Sciences, Translation and Language Sciences, and Political and Social Sciences.

The university promotes the use of Catalan as its main language, but also offers classes in Spanish. There are a few programs in English, like the International Business Economics Bachelor’s Degree, twelve Master degrees in four different fields, and PhDs in Biomedicine, Political and Social Sciences, Economics, Finance and Business and Information & Communication Technologies.

UFP has developed a program for foreign students who wish to learn the official Catalonia languages. UPF Languages offers courses and certifications. Students can choose between annual courses or intensive courses that allow students to complete two levels of language in one academic year.
