Written by Paula

If you are one of those people who never know what to do on the weekend, Barcelona is the place for you. Catalan people do not like to stay indoors on their free days, which means they are constantly creating new and unique activities that take place on the streets. Palo Alto Market is one of those great ways to spend your weekend. Whether you crave food, good music or want to do a little shopping, ShBarcelona will show you there’s something for everyone at Palo Alto Market.

The Palo Alto Market is an event that was created by a group of young professionals who work at Fundación Palo Alto, a space with nineteen creative studios inside what used to be an old factory. It is in the garden of the Fundación itself, a lush and beautiful place, hidden in the middle of the Barrio of Sant Martì, that the market takes place. The Palo Alto Market, which happens at least once a month, is a new and trendy kind of street market where you can buy unique design, decoration and clothing items. After you finished shopping, you can grab a bite in one of the various food stands or food trucks, choosing between Italian, organic, gourmet or street food. There are usually interesting exhibits and activities going on during the two days of the market, like 100% Organic Design, an installation presenting furniture made entirely out of bread. The Palo Alto Market is not only for adults. There are rag dolls, wooden toys and various other items created by hand by artists presenting their work for sale. But that’s not all: there are also workshops where kids can roll up their sleeves and get to work, learning how to build paper flowers, beautiful cardboard boxes, etc.

The soundtrack to the Palo Alto Market is provided by local DJs and a couple of live music performances. The market happens once a month, opening at 11 a.m. and closing at 9 p.m. Adults pay 4€, kids under 12 years old go in for free. If you buy your tickets online, you get a discount on the entrance fee of one euro and you can skip the long line, especially when the weather is good, to get into the Palo Alto Market.

Check out the official Palo Alto Website to learn more information about the event. If you like the concept of the market, why not join it as a vendor in one of their future editions? Just send them an e-mail with your information, telling them what you would like to sell.
