One of the jewels of the Catalan modernist movement, Sant Pau Recinte Modernista was designed by prominent architect Lluís Domênech I Montaner and inaugurated in 1930. With time, the work done by the architect was hidden under layers of plaster and other materials used during construction work. It took many years for his work to be discovered, when the building was being remodeled.
