Barcelona is a city that values the arts, which means there are always beautiful creations to be admired all around the city. If you are a fan of the art of stage performance, here are some of the various theatres where you can go to see a play in Barcelona.

Founded in 1976 by a group of theatre professionals, Teatre Lliure is considered today one of the most prestigious theatres in Spain. The theatre presents a variety of shows by Spanish theatre companies, along with its own productions.

Teatre Principal de Barcelona

The oldest theatre in Barcelona and one of the oldest ones in Spain, Teatre Principal de Barcelona was founded in 1603 with the name “Teatre de la Santa Creu”. Along the years, the theatre went through renovations and rebuilding processes, closing its doors in 2006. Years later, the theatre was renovated by architects German and Salvador Llobet, reopening as Teatre Principal de Barcelona.

Teatre Principal de Barcelona is located at Las Ramblas, 27.

Almeria Teatre

Founded in 2009 in the district of Gracia, Almeria Teatre focuses mainly on small, independent plays.

Almeria Teatre is located at Carrer de Sant Lluís, 64.

Eixample Teatre

Eixample Teatre is a venue that presents shows for every type of public, like families, Opera lovers, theatre aficionados and dance enthusiasts.

Eixample Teatre is located at Carrer d’Aragó, 140.

Teatre Nacional de Catalunya

theatre barcelonaTNC – Teatre Nacional de Catalunya  is a public theatre created by Generalitat de Catalunya, having opened its door in 1996. The theatre presents a variety of plays by authors like William Shakespeare and Federico García Lorca, most of them in Catalan.

Teatre Nacional de Catalunya is located at Plaça de les Arts, 1.
