24-hour stores in Barcelona

Written by Miguel

Back in the day, it was certainly true that the early bird got the worm. But in the globalized world we live in today, the time schedules of individuals can be very relative. With the advent of technology and the generalization of internet access, it’s very common for people to sleep all day and be awake all night. Of course, this already happened before for work-related reasons, but it’s incredibly common now, particularly amongst young people.

One of the disadvantages of this “alternative” lifestyle is that most of the world still functions from dawn to dusk. This means that if you’re a night-hawk, you’re awake while the city is asleep, which prevents your access to services and goods. Luckily for you, being the modern hub it is, Barcelona is keeping up with the times – both society’s and yours – and currently offers plenty of 24-hour stores where you can get what you need at any hour, day or night.

Open 25 is a convenience store in Eixample (Carrer d’Aribau, 149) that is open during every single one of the 8760 hours of the year. Amongst other things, it has bakery products, appetizers, snacks and quick meals. Perfect for when you crash on the couch in the middle of the afternoon and then find yourself hungry and fully awake in the middle of the night.

McDonald’s has a 24-hour drive-through store located at the Olympic Village in Poblenou (Parc de Mar, Carrer Jaime Vicens Vives, 2). The obvious disadvantage here is that you need a car to go there after midnight, but if you do, it’s a great option to have. Who has never craved a tasty burger and some fries at weird times? It makes for the perfect self-reward if you’re studying all night for an exam, for instance.

Peixos Ricard is a 24-hour fish market in Sant Martí (Carrer de València, 602). If you ever find yourself in need of iron or omega-3 in the middle of the night, don’t worry. The vending machine at its door will have everything you need to cook a delicious fish dish at 4 in the morning.

Work Center is a lifesaver for students in Barcelona. Open 24 hours every day of the week, this printing and photocopying shop in Eixample (Diagonal, 439) is your best friend when there’s a deadline looming for school work and you need to have everything ready and pretty the next morning.

Flores Navarro is aware that love has no concern for clocks. This flower shop in Sant Martí (Carrer de València, 320), which also has an online store, is always ready to deliver your affection to your loved ones.

There you have it. Day or night, you can now take advantage of everything the city has to offer you. Whether you’re an early riser or a chronic insomniac, you will never stay hungry, lovelorn or behind in class. 24-hour stores keep popping up all the time in Barcelona, so if you happen to discover a new one, feel free to let us know about it using the comment box below.
