Water Sports in Barcelona

Written by Stephen Cairns

Sunny beaches and mild water temperatures make Barcelona a fantastic place to try out a number of water sports, ranging from Stand Up Paddle (SUP) to kayaking and surfing.

Waves!

afBarcelona offers a fun and safe place to learn the ancient Hawaiian pastime of surfing. There are a number of stores to rent boards and equipment on the city beaches.

Pukas Surf School

Pukas Surf School is conveniently located at San Sebastiá Beach, in La Barceloneta, and offers surf lessons for beginners and group parties. They will provide wetsuits, foam boards suitable for learning, and a qualified instructor who teaches basic water safety together with the fundamentals of surfing.

They also offer Ocean Pilates!

Molokai Sup Center

Molokai Sup Center is a Stand Up Paddle company covering both lessons and outings for those wishing to walk on water. Molokai also advertise Paddlefit: a new training philosophy comprising a fitness class on a SUP board.
The staff at Molokai are well known for being friendly, easy going and very knowledgeable.

Wind!

Flow Sports

Just 15mins from Barcelona you will find the long beaches of Gavá Mar and Playa de la Murtra; perfect spots for those activities that harness the element of wind. Surrounded by a nature park, this is where Flow Sports are based; primarily a windsurfing school, they do also teach surfing and SUP.

Mojo Kite

Mojo Kite surfing company will take you from complete beginner to competent kite surfer in a few safe and easy steps. With enough practice and dedication, you will soon be flying off the tops of waves and getting some proper air time!

Excursions Barcelona

dFor the explorers out there, a day trip with Excursions Barcelona will put you in command of your very own sea kayak. Paddle into secret lagoons and coves around the Costa Brava and then don a mask and snorkel to view the wondrous variety and colour of sealife which lies just below the crystal clear blue water.

Most companies offer group discounts with some schools providing minibus services to transport clients to less crowded, more picturesque beaches north and south of the metropolis.

It’s advisable to book in advance during tourist/holiday periods and also to check if lessons are running. Wind and weather often dictate when these schools open.
