Vegan Bakeries in Barcelona

Whilst there are very sadly currently no bakeries that cater purely for vegans in Barcelona, all is not lost. A couple of vegetarian and vegan restaurants have suitable products available for the vegan diet, as do the more upmarket bakeries. Barcelona, in fact, is a land of bakeries. And it is possible to find yourself vegan-friendly organic breads and pastries, without having to make them yourself. ShBarcelona shows you where!

Where to find vegan bakeries in Barcelona

Daniela Bakery

Daniela Bakery is open 6 days a week and located in the neighbourhood of La Dreta de l’Eixample, very close to Girona Metro stop, Daniela Bakery is not entirely vegan, nor vegetarian for that matter. However, she does offer a line in vegan products, amidst the tuna baguettes and traditional cupcakes.

Wednesday is the best day to go, as this is the day that Daniela bakes fresh vegan items such as cookies, cupcakes, brownies and carrot cake – all fresh from her oven and containing ingredients such as rice flour, coconut oil or organic margarine and sweetened with organic brown sugar or agave syrup.

Juice House

A very new addition to the increasingly popular and gentrified Carrer Parlament in the neighbourhood of Sant Antoni, Juice House is a lovingly run establishment where the onus is on good quality and healthy.

Despite the name, Juice House is way more than that, serving breakfast and full meals that are made from organic products and with raw vegan dishes – a rare find in Spain. If you are interested in their baked goods, then they usually have vegan spelt croissants, toasts, banana bread and brownies.

Plus a great range of juices, salads, gentle service and a calming ambience.

Crusto

A more gorgeous selection of mouthwatering baked goods I have never before seen in all my years of being a vegan. Sadly, only a few of their items are vegan-friendly, but what they do have is delicious and also of a very high quality.

At Crusto they also serve fresh juices of orange, apple, carrot or celery if you want to ignore the hideous display of baked produce and they serve gorgeous teas in proper teapots with fine china tea cups. The inside is gorgeous: bright, airy, beautifully laid out and industrious.

Old grey and white tiles line the floor and a giant mirror sits against an exposed brick wall. A massive clock is suspended from the ceiling on a chain like a pocket watch for Gargantua. There are some lovely old and lovingly battered wrought iron and marble tables at which to eat with a long bench along one wall and there is a terrace of several small tables outside for warmer days.

No Wi-Fi, so people go to Crusto just to drink tea and eat pastries and chat. Imagine that? No Wi-Fi?! Crusto has several locations in Barcelona: in the districts of Les Corts, Eixample and Sarria-Sant Gervasi.

Lujuria Vegana Bakery

This is a  little misleading as Lujuria used to be but is no longer, a bakery in itself. Lujuria vegan–friendly products are now it appears only available inside Pujol, a very small and traditional bakery located in El Raval, 10 minutes walk from La Rambla.

Pujol is a curious little shop with very few items for sale, but it does stock a very small selection of Lujuria’s vegan sweets. Expect to find chocolate brownies, a ginger cake and a lemon cake. Each individual portion comes ready to take away in its own Lujuria packaging.
