Top Events Of 2015: Music

Primavera Sound, 25th – 31st May

Once a modest music festival dedicated to talented musicians from different generations, cultures and genres Primavera Sound is now one of the most recognised music festivals in Europe. The eclectic line-up has attracted music lovers from all four corners of the globe. The creators of Primavera Sound ensure a quality program of bands and musicians and this year is no different: The Strokes, The Replacements, Underworld, The Black Keys, Sleater-Kinney, Patti Smith, and Ride are just a few of the names performing this year. The festival takes place in El Forum and continues on for three days.

 

Sónar, 18th – 20th June

Since 1994, Sónar has continued to grow from strength to strength and, like Primavera Sound, it has become one of the most respected music festivals in Europe. This year, the headliners include Shrillex, FKT Twigs, Die Antword, Flying Lotus and Hot Chip amongst others.

It’s not all about the music with Sónar, during the day ticket holders can indulge their senses in the SónarCinema which feature an eclectic mix of thought provoking films. Moreover, the OffSónar events have gained so much of a reputation that the tickets sell out faster than the actual Sónar festival.

 

Festival Jardins Palau De Pedralbes, 8th June – 9th July

2013 saw the birth of Barcelona’s latest international music festival: the Festival Jardins Palau De Pedralbes. Each year the festival hosts an array of international musicians and this year is no different. Big Names such as Bob Dylan, Jessie J, Pet Shop Boys and Buena Vista Social Club join some of the top artists in Spain at the outdoor summer concert series. The festival takes place on the outskirts of the city in the beautiful surroundings of Parc de Pedralbes.

 

Rototom SunSplash, 15th – 22nd August

Some of Reggae’s most notable legends come together for the 22nd European Reggae Festival. Performing for the first time in Europe is dance hall music icon Super Cat. Also included in the line-up is Bunny Wailer, Major Lazer and The Pioneers, to name just a few. If you have an appreciation for Reggae culture and music, this is definitely the festival you would want to be at this summer. The festival takes place in Benicàssim.

 

Voll Damm Festival International, From 26th September

The 47th Voll Damm Festival International is the city’s largest jazz festival. The event takes place in venues though out Barcelona and you will have to buy individual tickets for each performance.  This year, Diana Krall is to open the festival with a performance at the Auditori del Forùm.
