Rooftop terraces are to Barcelona, what red buses are to London. With its superb balmy climate and mild winters, with its long summer days and year-round sunshine, Barcelona is home to many rooftop terraces. Whether you find yourself on a private or a public rooftop, make sure to enjoy the view and take in some sunshine.
Regardless of the season, when the weather permits it (and in Barcelona, the weather really does permit) get yourself on one of the following rooftop terraces to enjoy the city from a different perspective whilst everyone else runs about on the ground.

Carrer Bergara, 8
Right in the very middle of everything, just a few wee steps away from Plaça Catalunya, the rooftop sanctuary of Hotel Pulitzer feels like heaven with its ambience of luscious plants, tranquil music and its flickering candles. You won’t believe you are just a few steps from the mayhem that is Plaça Catalunya.

One of the newer rooftops in Barcelona, the Sky Bar at the Grand Central Hotel has impressive and spectacular vistas, an infinity pool, and really good food at surprisingly affordable prices (by rooftop terrace standards, at least). The Sky Bar rooftop terrace only opens to the public at night, from 8:30 pm. It is better to get there as early as you can because it fills up very fast.
Carrer de Calabria, 115
For something much more intimate, you should check out the divine little terraza at Vila Emilia. Not far from Placa Espanya, this hidden little gem nestles sweetly amongst rooftops. It features live music and barbeque on Thursday and Saturday nights. We recommend that you call ahead to make a reservation.

La Rambla, 109
One of the few reasons to walk down La Rambla – other than to use it as a gateway to get yourself somewhere else – La Isabela Terrace Hotel is an oasis in this crazily industrious part of town, offering spectacular views all over the Gothic Quarter.
Passeig de Colon, 8
With its proximity to the port, the Duquesa de Cardona has fantastic views of the harbour. With its heaters and blankets, the place is also well-equipped for the winter months to keep your tootsies warm – if the potent drinks don’t manage to.

The chic Alaire Bar at the Condes de Barcelona Hotel has a prime location that enables you to take a look down on La Pedrera rooftop terrace. There are, of course, fantastic city views in every direction from the water to Montjuic, even as far as Tibidabo. The bar is upmarket and the service and prices are what you would expect in this fashionable and classy neighbourhood.
Rambla de Raval, 17-21
Unsurprisingly, this rooftop terrace allows unbeatable 360-degree views of Barcelona, from Montjuic to Tibidabo to the Torres Mapfre and beyond. Sleek and modern, it is a popular location for an evening cocktail.

Plaça de la Rosa de Vents, 1
