New Year’s resolutions

It is a habit in some countries to make New Year’s resolutions, which are basically promises to oneself to perform certain acts of self-improvement.  With the New Year of 2016 just around the corner, we decided to help you with some ideas for your New Year’s resolutions.

Get in shape

A lot of us are constantly postponing exercising, despite our desire to sculpt our bodies and to improve our health. It can be a real challenge to begin, but once you have started you will actually want to keep it up, noticing how energized and healthy it makes you feel.

There are tons of gyms in Barcelona like Holmes Place, Anytime Fitness and Claror, and great meetup groups where you can not only exercise, but meet new people.

Do something good

Doing good can be achieved by performing the most simple gestures like opening the door for someone, helping an old person cross the street or lending someone a hand with their heavy groceries. But if you want to go a step further, there are a couple of things you can try in Barcelona.

CiviClub is an online platform and club that rewards members who perform good deeds. Each good deed listed at CiviClub awards the members a certain number of points, which can be exchanged by gifts, making it a win-win situation. At Civiclub you can do anything from donating toys, to collaborating with animal protection organizations.

Another option is to try volunteering. There are a number of organizations in Barcelona that would appreciate your help. You can discover some of them by clicking here.

Adopt instead of buying. If you are a fan of animals and were thinking of adding a new furry friend to your family, consider adopting the animal instead of purchasing it.

Spend more time with the family

If your family lives in the same city as you, this may not be an issue. But if you are one of the thousands of immigrants living in Barcelona, start making the effort to go see your family more often. We know it’s not always a matter of will but a matter of money, so to help you out, here are the names of the most popular low cost airlines that fly from Barcelona: Ryanair, Vueling and Easyjet.

Save money

There are lots of ways to save money while living in Barcelona. One of them is to invest on Bicing membership. That way, you will not only be fulfilling your exercising goal, but also saving a lot of money in public transportation tickets or gas for your vehicle.

Another way you can save money without depriving yourself of the excellent cultural offer in Barcelona is to wait to visit certain museums on Sundays, when you can visit for free.

Develop your bargain-hunting skills and start shopping for clothes in second-hand stores like Flamingo Vintage Kilo and Holala, or visiting some of the many markets that sell second-hand products like Flea Market, Encants and Lost and Found.

You can also save on groceries by comparing prices and offers of your local supermarkets, which you can easily with Tiendeo.
