First things first: The apartment you will be living in will be the key factor to your peace of mind. Choose and apartment on a higher level, and if you can have the top floor and not have any neighbours above you, then that would be perfect. Also pay attention to the insulation of doors and windows.
Check out who your new neighbours will be. Are there only young people or students in the building? Are there families with small children or people with pets? Or what about apartments for tourists? All this information can give you an indication of the noise level in your apartment.
It would be ideal if you can find an apartment in a pedestrian zone (like in Ciutat Vella), as you will be able to avoid traffic and everything that naturally comes with it (traffic jams, noise, fumes).
