How to Enjoy Hot Summer Days in Barcelona

Barcelona is one of the best cities to enjoy your summer. Visit its beautiful beaches, have a delicious cocktail at a chiringuito (beach bar) or have lunch at a restaurant by the sea. These three locations are also perfect to see the sunset on the shores of the Mediterranean, and these are not only special moments for residents of the city, but they can also be yours, if you are renting tourist accommodation in Barcelona. There are activities we do not even want to consider doing during cold winter days, but these are perfect for when summer arrives. So please keep reading if you are looking for ideas on how to spend your humid and hot summer days with family or friends.

    Isla Fantasía (Fantasy Island): This is a water park located in the town of Vilassar de Dalt in the Maresme region. It first opened in 1981, and it has since become one of the most popular water parks in Catalonia. It is a family leisure venue, that has 22 different water attractions, spread out over more than 80,000m2.

One of the characteristics of the park, is that it has more than 10.000m2 of green leisure zones. It has several aquatic attractions, three large pools, a playground for children, a minigolf area and a recreation area. Besides this, it has more than 900 picnic tables in a large pine forest.

There are many facilities for you to use, such as cafeterias and restaurants, a self-service restaurant, a shop, an ATM and several information desks.

  • Aquarium Barcelona: The Barcelona Aquarium has a spectacular Oceanarium, considered to be the largest aquarium. It is unique in Europe, and you can observe a great number of underwater species. With a diameter of 36 metres and a depth of 5 metres, it contains nearly 4 million litres of water.

Visit the aquarium if you want to see different species, such as bream, moray eels, moonfish, rays and two types of sharks: the bull shark (Carcharias taurus) and the sandbar shark (Carcharhinus plumbeus), which are among the most admired in the enclosure.

    Teleférico Montjuïc (Montjuïc Cable Car): This is the best place to enjoy panoramic views of Barcelona on clear blue summer days. If it is your first time in the city, the Telefèric Montjuïc will show you the city from above, which makes orientation a lot easier after enjoying your ride in the cable car.

You can see all of Barcelona and several of the most characteristic places in the Catalan capital, such as: Plaça Cataluña, Barcelona Cathedral, the Sagrada Familia, the cruise ships moored at the Port of Barcelona, Vila Olímpica (the Olympic Village) in Barcelona, Torre Glòries (Glòries Tower) and the Fórum area.

  • Dinner with Stars at the Fabra Observatory: Cenas con Estrellas (Dinner with Stars) is a special summer event in Barcelona. The happenings take place during the summer months at the Fabra Observatory, and it combines scientific outreach, astronomical observation and a suggestive gastronomic offer.

The Observatory and dinners are located at one of the most privileged viewpoints of the city of Barcelona. The evening starts with the dinner, and you had better be prepared for an appetizing gastronomic offer with the ‘stars’ as its inspiration. The kitchen uses high quality ingredients, and your dinner will be served on the terrace at a time when the sun starts to set.

To end the event, there is a 30-minute science talk, where you will be given the possibility to ask all your questions.
