Take the beautiful Gothic neighbourhood, for instance. Located in the centre of the old city and being a major tourist attraction, its restaurant prices will naturally be a bit inflated – but there are some hidden gems in this cultural treasure trove of a neighbourhood, and we found them for you.
Bo de B
Address: C/Fusteria, 14.
Our first big discovery is a very small place. With delicious dishes for as little as 3,50€, you’re bound to have to wait in line a bit (it’s hard to hide a gem this huge!), but it will be well worth it for its fresh salads, sandwiches and bocadillos.
Address: Carrer Comtal, 12.
A small cafe and bakery with great breakfast and lunch options, El Mos allows you to satisfy your hunger for as little as 6€. The offer is surprisingly varied for such a small place, including pizzas, sandwiches, tapas and a lot of delicious pastries. You can use it either for a quick takeaway or a nice sit-down meal (on a budget) in the Gothic neighbourhood.
Address: Carrer Escudellers, 42.
If you’re a vegan, don’t worry – you too can eat on a budget in the Gothic neighbourhood. Gopal is a cool vegan deli, and although I’m not sure if the name is supposed to be a pun, you can take your food and go, pal – this is a preferred place for quick takeaway among local. If you’d rather eat there, the place is small but has a terrace, so you’ve got that covered as well. You’ve got plenty of options when it comes to food, and all of it is pretty cheap – a (vegan) burger or a sandwich costs around 3/4€, while a full menu (which includes chips and a drink) sells for 7.90€.
