Written by Thompson Crowley

There’s so much delicious food to try in Barcelona, so many different dishes: Canelons, escalivada, fricandó, paella, bacallà amb samfaina, not to mention all the different tapas. There’s so much on offer tourists flock here to indulge in the various restaurants. But those mouth-watering mains aren’t the only treats to indulge on: there’s also plenty of desserts to quaff down too. The most popular and abundant ones are crepes and waffles. You’ll find many places selling them all over the city, each adding its own unique twist. Here are the best ones in La Barceloneta:

Located on Passeig de Joan de Borbó, 5Brunch and Cake by the sea is a breakfast spot and snack place with plenty to offer. They make a point of having healthy choices on the menu and everything is made from natural ingredients. They have plenty of vegetarian and vegan options and everything is so reasonably priced, you’ll struggle to spend over 20€. Besides, they’re open from 9am to 10pm every day. So, if you want some crepes and waffles but want to watch what you eat, well, go here!

Waffle booths

If you walk around the little streets closest to the water, you will be invaded by a sudden urge to devour a waffle. There are a number of waffle booths dotting the area, producing such an appealing smell, you will have no option but to succumb to them. Some sell waffles and ice cream while others sell waffles and hot dogs. There is one around the back of Maremagnum mall, close to the Aquarium, in Passeig d’Itaca, and another one close to La Mar de Bo restaurant, in Moll del Dipòsit.

Creperie Bretonne Annaick

Another French creperie here, this time with roots in Brittany, home of the crepe. Creperie Bretonne Annaick is located on Ramón Trías Fargas, 2, just a stone’s throw away from the beach. The interior is very stylish, with a double-decker bus serving as the kitchen. It is also very colourful, with many retro signs and hangings giving it that trendy feel. They have a good range of food on the menu (although mainly crepes!) and everything is delicately presented to you with that touch of personality that the French do so well. It’s been open in Barcelona for many years, tourists often returning year after year on their holidays only too glad that it’s still going strong.
