Barcelona’s Olympic Museum

No visit to Barcelona is complete for a sports fan without a pit stop at Museu Olímpic i de l’Esport Joan Antoni Samaranch. Barcelona’s very own Olympic and Sports Museum was inaugurated in 2007, right across from the Estadi Olympic Lluís Companys. The museum’s name is an homage to former International Olympic Committee president Juan Antonio Samarach, who was also who donated a great part of the pieces featured in the museum.

The museum invites people to go on a journey through the world of sports, presenting it as a universal language which knows no barriers. Visitors get to take a peek at all of the most famous sports that exist, through interactive exhibits and the display of historical pieces which have left a mark in the Olympic and sports world.

The museum aims not only to entertain but also to educate people about sports, helping them to understand that sports are not purely a form of exercise, displaying the feats of memorable athletes who achieved greatness in their fields, and featuring exhibitions that illustrate how sports are practiced in different civilizations.

  • There was a video about athletic events in Barcelona at the end of the museum tour. Is there a link to the video on the internet? I would like to use it for a presentation at my local city council meeting.
